Patient Instructions & Preparation

Preparation guidance for consultations, blood tests, breath tests, liver stiffness assessment and endoscopy pathways.

Before a consultation

  • Bring photo ID and your current medication list.
  • Bring previous blood tests, scan reports, endoscopy reports and GP letters.
  • Bring insurance membership details and authorisation code if applicable.

Before blood or stool tests

  • Instructions depend on the test panel.
  • Some tests may require fasting or timed sample collection.
  • Bring any recent relevant results to avoid duplication.

Before breath testing

  • Follow the test-specific preparation sheet.
  • Medication, antibiotics, probiotics and laxatives may affect results.
  • Contact the team if you are unsure whether your medication should be paused.

Before gastroscopy

  • Usually fast for at least six hours.
  • Tell the team about diabetes, blood thinners and GLP-1 medicines such as Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro.
  • Medication instructions are personalised.

Before colonoscopy

  • Follow the low-fibre diet and bowel preparation instructions.
  • Tell the team about diabetes or blood thinners.
  • Arrange an escort if sedation is used.

Before liver stiffness assessment

  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Bring recent liver blood test or scan results if available.
  • The scan result is interpreted alongside the wider clinical picture.
